Our analysis shows that the 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is the first of the 12 new EREVs that are expected in the U.S. by 2028. Unlike a typical electric truck, the 1500 Ramcharger combines electric power with a gas engine that acts as a generator, offering excellent range and power.
Since the announcement in November 2023, Ram has revised the vehicle’s specifications, making it quicker and more powerful. Here are seven key things we learned about what is arguably the world’s first range-extended full-size pickup truck.
1. 690-mile range
The Ramcharger uses a 92 kWh battery and a 3.6-liter V6 engine that charges the battery when required. Together, they give the truck a manufacturer-estimated driving range of up to 690 miles.
2. DC Fast Charging
The battery can also be charged externally, like a normal electric vehicle, at up to 145 kW DC fast charging. This can add up to 50 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It works with Level 1, Level 2, and fast charging stations. Plus, it has a 130 kW on-board generator that can also send power to the battery, and comes with one-pedal driving for regenerative braking.
3. V2L & V2H
The Ramcharger offers versatile power management. The company says that it can power devices from the vehicle power panel (4.8 kW and 7.2 kW outlets), power appliances, tools, and other EVs through the charge port adapters, and can power a residence through the V2H feature.
4. 663 hp motors

The truck develops 663 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque from two electric motors—a 250 kW front motor, and a 250 kW motor in the back. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
5. 14,000 lbs towing
The Ram 1500 Ramcharger is not a lifestyle truck and can haul serious gear and tow a trailer. Ram says that it can tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry a payload of 2,625 pounds.
6. Off-Road ready
On paper, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is equally capable off the road. The truck is built on a revised high-strength steel frame and offers features like four-corner active air suspension, 22-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and can drive through up to 24 inches of water.
7. Precedes the 1500 REV
Ram originally planned to launch the fully-electric Ram 1500 REV first. But due to evolving customer demand and a strong interest in the Ramcharger, it will now arrive at U.S. dealers in the first half of 2025. The REV will follow in 2026.
Both trucks will be made in Sterling Heights, Michigan. We expect the Ramcharger to start at around USD 75,000, but given the new tariffs on imported auto parts, the final pricing is still pending.
