Aside from the production EV4, Kia also revealed the Concept EV2 during its recent EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain. Its name suggests it will be the company’s smallest electric vehicle yet, and indeed it’s being billed as a B-segment SUV, perhaps around the size of the entry-level Sonet.

This is all borne out in the Concept EV2’s design, which is very much “honey, I shrunk the EV3,” the latter already sharing many styling cues with the full-fat EV9. The most distinctive aspect is undoubtedly the double vertical headlights that continue to feature Kia’s Star Map light signature. These do not have any cover glass on them, but expect the production model’s lamps to be faired in for better aerodynamics.

Moving downwards, front bumper has been designed to look rugged, featuring a bone-shaped silver bar that runs the entire width of the car; this is repeated in the rear bumper and the side skirts. These are encapsulated in mottled black body cladding that also forms the chunky fender flares.

Along the side, the Concept EV2’s upright body and short overhangs emphasise the car’s bijou look, with geometric details such as the wraparound windscreen design, clean and sharp shoulder lines over the front and rear haunches, and the literal squares in the wheels. The taillights extend outwards from the wheel arches in a very similar fashion to the headlights on the polarising Tasman pick-up truck.

The Concept EV2’s extroverted design language continues on the inside through the pillar-less suicide doors, with a bold light blue colour scheme punctuated by a deep red dashboard that wraps around the front section. The clean horizontal panel’s chamfered design is mirrored by the octagonal steering wheel that has been bent to fit the dash’s contours.

Behind the tiller sits a widescreen display panel running on an operating system that can be updated over the air, while below it, a metal bar with a striking orange pattern houses a wireless charger and a power outlet. A consistent triangular theme runs throughout the interior, including the removable front door speakers and the strip lighting running through the door cards.

The Concept EV2 features bench seating front and rear; the back one can be folded up to allow the front seats to be slid all the way back for infinite legroom. Elsewhere, there are pop-up luggage dividers and straps, and even outward facing panels that enable users to message pedestrians and other road users (we totally can’t imagine anyone abusing these in real life…).

No technical details have been revealed just yet, but expect the production EV2 to share some components with the similarly-sized, India-only Hyundai Creta Electric. That car is powered by a single front motor producing up to 171 PS (126 kW) while battery pack options of up to 51.4 kWh deliver a claimed range of 473 km. The EV2 is set to go on sale in Europe and elsewhere starting next year.
