Britain’s favourite van set to celebrate 60 years at the Classic Ford Show in May at the South of England Showground in West Sussex
In 1965, Britain’s builders could finally find an easy home for every sheet of 8×4 they needed in the back of a van that handled like a car. The Transit’s arrival 60 years ago saw the founding of an impressive commercial vehicle dynasty and another household name for the Blue Oval.
Over the years derivatives have become rally service barges, motorhomes, four-wheel-drive loadluggers, crew buses, flat beds, riot vans, mobile libraries, pop group transport, executive transport and more.
The original Transit was not only bigger, better, faster and more versatile than any other such van on the market in Europe, but it was also fun to drive. Since then the model has been developed across a number of generations and made its way across the world, with over eight million examples produced so far. The Transit even crossed the Atlantic in recent years and has become a best-seller in America.
A select few of those are set to take centre stage at the Classic Ford Show on 11 May, 2025 at the South of England Showground in West Sussex as part of a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Transit. A curated display will feature some of the very best Transits in the country to celebrate the milestone.
Elsewhere, show visitors can enjoy hundreds of incredible Ford models on display across a huge range of club displays, along with 50 of the very best cars shown off as part of the Classic Ford Top 50 display brought together by Classic Ford magazine. The fan-favourite Great Unveiling will see a number of Ford project cars shown off to the world for the first time, while the Classic Ford ICONs competition will see a number of top-tier cars go head to head.
Other highlights are set to include an extensive retail village, club awards and great entertainment, along with the opportunity to camp on-site for just £25 per pitch – with Saturday night entertainment thrown in.
