Chinese giant BYD has launched a fleet pricing program that will bring discounts across its range, helping it progress towards its ambitious sales goals in Australia.

Operated in conjunction with Australian distributor EVDirect, BYD is offering fleet discounts across its entire range of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) including the incoming Shark 6 ute.

The fleet pricing comes after BYD outlined its sales targets for the remainder of 2024 – 25,000 units in Australia – and the years to come, which includes ambitions to double its figures annually.

That would mean 50,000 Australian units in 2025 and then 100,000 units in 2026. BYD also aims for the Shark 6 to match the sales trajectory of the Sealion 6, which has been the top-selling PHEV in Australia over the past two months.

As part of the deal, BYD is offering a six per cent discount for all local, state and federal government departments and agencies, as well as not-for-profit organisations.

There’s also a six per cent discount for extended fleet clients, which comprises all companies with a fleet size of more than 100 vehicles.

A four per cent discount is available for standard fleet clients, applicable to all companies with a fleet size of 20 to 99 vehicles.

Dealer delivery is free as part of the offer. To qualify, interested organisations must register for the BYD Fleet Program via the brand’s online link here.

Fleet sales account for a significant chunk of the new car market in Australia.

In 2023, while 630,297 vehicles were delivered to private buyers, a total of 429,634 vehicles went to businesses while another 71,274 were delivered to car rental agencies and 33,803 to government fleets.
