The next-gen Tesla Roadster is one of the most anticipated electric cars, and after years of delays, it’s finally expected to go on sale in the U.S. in 2025. Tesla co-founder and CEO has promised the next-gen Roadster will be “something spectacular,” and there are plenty of reasons to share Musk’s excitement. Here are seven aspects of the 2026 Tesla Roadster we can’t wait to experience:

Scintillating Design

The next-generation Tesla Roadster promises to be a breathtaking sports car. Sleek and edgy headlamps, a low and fast-sloping hood, and a steeply raked but curvy windshield strongly would convey its sporty intent.

On the sides, extremely short overhangs, strongly defined body surfaces, sharp character lines, broad, muscular wheel arches, and a fast-sloping roofline give it a dynamic look and emphasize the car’s solid stance. At the rear, the car would feature a flat windscreen, an integrated spoiler, and a prominent diffuser, leaving a lasting impression.

Futuristic Interior

A compact passenger compartment with a clean and minimalistic design should ignite a sense of excitement and driving enthusiasm the moment the driver steps into the next-gen Tesla Roadster. The car’s sleek, flat-looking dashboard, slim sports seats, and yoke-style compact steering would communicate a strong emphasis on light and performance-focused design.

Seats For The Kids

Tesla will offer a 2+2 seating layout option in the next-gen Roadster, making it family-friendly. The rear seats will not be suitable for six-footers, but they’d still be a useful feature for many customers to bring their children along for outings, such as trips to the park or an ice cream run

Storage Solutions

Along with a four-seat option, a spacious trunk will add a touch of practicality to the next-gen Tesla Roadster. The car’s cargo area will likely be capable of accommodating a couple of cabin suitcases or one full-size suitcase—ideal for a weekend getaway.

Unmatched performance

The next-gen Tesla Roadster would be the world’s quickest car with a neck-snapping acceleration. It’ll do 0 to 60 mph in less than a second, proving that electric powertrains are the pinnacle of performance engineering. Even the base variant will be blisteringly quick, zipping from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds. This level of performance is simply put unbelievable, but Tesla has a credible track record of doing the most unthinkable, especially on the performance front.

And that is the least interesting part

SpaceX package

Thanks to a collaboration with SpaceX, an optional package would bring aerospace technology to the next-gen Tesla Roadster to further boost its performance and driving dynamics, and maybe even lift it off the ground for some time. We expect it to be much more capable than the BYD Yangwang U9, which can just leap over the road momentarily.

In 2019, Musk said that the two-seat version of the next-gen Roadster will be available with SpaceX’s cold gas thruster system and suggested that this technology will allow it to lift off the ground even when stationary and let it hover. In 2024, he said outright that the upcoming electric sports car will be able to fly, confirming what we were expecting all along.

Stunning range

A sports car is no good if it is limited by range and runs out of juice after a few laps on the race track or on a highway trip after just a few hundred miles. The next-generation Tesla Roadster is expected to feature a large battery pack, capable of ultra-fast charging at up to 350 kW.

If Tesla delivers on its promises made at the new Roadster’s premiere in 2017, the next-generation Roadster will feature a 200 kWh battery pack capable of ultra-fast charging at up to 350 kW. With an estimated range of 620 miles, it could enable customers to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back without needing to recharge.
