The new Tesla Model Y (‘Juniper’ as the internet likes to call it), widely considered the most anticipated EV of 2025 globally, has been revealed in China. The refreshed electric crossover is also testing in Europe and the U.S., and it’s a matter of time before the global-spec model is revealed.
Here are our six inferences from these images:
Redesigned Hood & Tailgate
The Tesla Model Y Juniper features a redesigned hood that looks longer than that of the outgoing model. Its tailgate is also revised, allowing for a change in the design of the taillights that complements the ducktail spoiler. Tesla has updated the plastic and metallic panels of the Model Y, signaling that this is a significant facelift.
Front Bumper with Roadster vibes
Tesla has redesigned the front bumper of the Model Y with the facelift. The refreshed look is reminiscent of the next-gen Roadster, featuring a similar sculpting on the outer ends and a similar cutout for the air intake grille.
Light bands emphasizing the Model Y’s width
Like the Cybertruck and Cybercab, the Model Y refresh features light bands at the front and rear, highlighting the car’s width. At the front, the light band runs along the leading edge of the hood, with the headlamps shifting to the bumper.
The design of the central light strip and its connection to the side lights is reminiscent of other Chinese EVs. At the rear, the taillights, which have a new, sleeker design with a C-shape, are connected via a light band.
Sporty Rear bumper
Tesla has updated the rear bumper design of the refreshed Model Y. The bottom section now features a raised central area that draws inspiration from the updated Model 3. It also houses the registration plate, which has moved from the tailgate.
Turbine-style Wheels
The 2025 Tesla Model Y features new turbine-style wheels, although the design may vary depending on the market. Tesla will likely offer 19-, 20-, and 21-inch wheel options for new Model Y in the U.S.
No signs of bumper camera seen on test mules
Early test prototypes hinted that Tesla might be hiding a camera in the front bumper under camouflage. However, the latest spy shots suggest this sensing unit won’t be included in the 2025 Model Y, similar to the new Model 3, as it was likely just part of general testing equipment.
