Few vehicles could better epitomize the term “hot rod” than a mid-1950s Chevy that’s been painted bright red, souped up with a big-block V8, lowered on an air suspension and decked out with an aggressive set of aluminum wheels. Presenting a classic car that you can probably see – and most certainly hear – coming from at least a mile away:

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 468-Powered 1955 Chevrolet 210 Sedan. The car is being offered by a dealer in St. Louis, Missouri, and the auction will end Tuesday.

If attention-grabbing is not your thing, then you had better look elsewhere for your next collector car. For the rest of you, let us admire a “tri-five” Chevy that is bound to bring home an award from every car show it attends. The build started out with a complete frame-off restoration that required custom fabrication of the body. Thanks to the car’s adjustable air suspension, it can practically sit on the ground – road conditions permitting, of course.

Nicknamed “Cherry Bomb,” the car’s all-red theme continues to the cockpit. The dual-bench upholstery was redone in red and white leather with added lap belts. A custom floor-mounted center console has been installed which houses auxiliary gauges, a Lokar shift lever, and dual cup holders.

The heart of the machine is a potent 468ci big-block V8 mated to a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. The engine bay is upgraded with goodies including a four-barrel carburetor, a billet intake system, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. To cap things off, a Flowmaster exhaust system makes for easy breathing, and power is channeled to a Ford 9-inch limited-slip rear end with 3.55 gearing.

Of course, it’s all fun and games until the next stop sign, so the braking system was beefed up with a set of power-assisted discs up front.

Of all the cars that we get to feature on The Journal, the 1955-through-1957 Chevrolets are among the most viewed – and for good reason. Even 70 years later, they offer a classic look with virtually unlimited options for customization. For hot-rod enthusiasts, this 1955 Chevy has both “show” and “go” that will make it a conversation piece everywhere it goes. Do you have what it takes to take the reins of its big-block powertrain?

The auction for this 468-Powered 1955 Chevrolet 210 Sedan will end Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. (MST)
