To me, the very best Camaro of all time is the second-generation model with the RS nose. This car combined all the things that made the original Camaro great and added stunning European-inspired styling that has never been bettered and more interior creature comforts. It was an immediate hit and so good that the basic design lasted until 1981. Although the Mustang grew in size in this era and became more of a luxury car, the Camaro never lost its way and became what is – to me – the single best pony car of the 1970s.
Our AutoHunter Spotlight focuses on one of these great cars, a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS.
The selling dealer describes this car as a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport that is powered by a reportedly numbers-matching 350ci Turbo-Fire V8 mated to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic transmission.
The exterior looks nice and is finished in yellow with black stripes, which replaces the original Classic Copper (code 67). It features a rear spoiler, Plasti-dipped chrome bumpers, and dual color-matched factory sport mirrors. The car rides on 15-inch chrome Weld Racing wheels with 205/60 Goodyear Eagle GTII front and 245/60 Performance Radial G/TÂ rear tires.
The interior is finished in factory-correct black vinyl that was changed from the original Saddle vinyl (code 727) and features bucket seats, air conditioning, a column-mounted automatic shifter, and a Sony AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth head unit.
Under the hood is the reportedly numbers-matching 350ci Turbo-Fire V8, equipped with an Edelbrock Air-Gap intake, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and ceramic-coated long tube headers. The engine is backed by a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic and a 10-bolt Positraction rear axle.
Underpinnings include a QA1 coilover rear suspension, power front disc brakes, and a dual exhaust system.
This is a great driver-level 1970 Camaro which would be a great car for local shows, weekend drives, and just pure driving fun.
