The first production battery-electric vehicle from Lamborghini could boast up to 2,000 PS in power output, Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said, reported Autocar. the Italian supercar marque’s upcoming EV was previewed by the Lanzador concept from 2023, a 2+2 tall-riding model with a coupé-like roofline.

At its unveiling, the Lanzador concept was said to offer a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain for a peak output of more than one megawatt, which is 1,000 kW or 1,360 PS. The lofty peak output figure has since been raised even further, as the upcoming Lamborghini EV will use “a joint electric kit that will benefit from synergies across brands,” said Blume.

This upcoming EV will use a platform that Porsche is leading the development of, for future models by Audi, Bentley and Porsche, allowing for power outputs of up to 2,000 PS from a 980-volt architecture which should bring quicker charging and better efficiency. “It’s a very specific setup for Lamborghini,” Blume said, adding that the electric Raging Bull will be assembled at the marque’s headquarters in Sant’Agata in Italy.

“I promise that it will be a typical Lamborghini, something very emotional,” Blume continued. Other EV entrants in the rarefied air of the 2,000 PS output region include the Lotus Evija and the Rimac Nevera R.

Despite other luxury brands delaying their first EV models, Lamborghini intends to stay the course for the introduction of its first EV before 2030, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann had told Autocar previously, and said that its outlined electrification strategy was ‘the right one’.

“When we decided to do the first step of our strategy, to have all the line-up new and hybridised, this was a big effort for the company. For the last four years, we have worked very hard on this, and now we see that this was – you never know, but – the right decision. Therefore we think that to be very focused on a step-by-step approach on [electrification] was the right decision,” Winkelmann said.

“So far, we are not thinking about delaying anything: we said we want to have our first electric car by the end of this decade, and this is something which we will continue to foster, because we said it has to be an additional car – a fourth model. It’s an additional model – a new body style, a new type of car in general – so it’s also going to attract new customers to Lamborghini,” Winkelmann said, referring to the production version of the Lanzador.

Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark said last month that the British brand’s first EV will debut by 2030, while Bentley plans to debut its fist EV in 2026, or a year later than originally planned.
