When you’re an automaker that’s been around for more than a century, you don’t just sell new vehicles. You can also sell your past to those nostalgic for yesteryear. Buyers of the 2025 Ford Bronco who want to give their rig some retro style will be able to brighten it up with the Free Wheeling appearance package.
According to Ford, “From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, the Free Wheeling package was available for the Ford F-100, F-150, Bronco, Econoline van, and added graphics with red, orange and yellow gradients, painted steel wheels, and black finishes on the grilles, mirrors, and bumpers. Inside the vehicle featured red and orange pin striping on the dash and seat stitching.” A look at the 1978 line of Free Wheeling vehicles shows that the package added orange/tan/cream or blue/white/green tape stripes (depending on the base paint color), black bumpers, low-mounted mirrors, a sport steering wheel, and styled steel wheels with raised-white-letter tires to the Bronco.
The latest version of the Free Wheeling package has “sunset inspired beach vibes” and is available on Bronco Big Bend models with or without the Sasquatch package. Exterior changes include reflective red, orange, and yellow graphics on the sides, silver door handles, and an Iconic Silver grille with white “BRONCO” lettering outlined in red as well as glossy black 17-inch steel wheels; Sasquatch-equipped Broncos get similar wheels with a machined lip filled with red. Ford applies a similar multicolored treatment to the Marine-Grade Vinyl and fabric seats.
You can currently get the Free Wheeling package on the 2024 Bronco Sport, but if you just have to have it on the 2025 “big” Bronco, you’ll have to wait until January of next year. Hey, if you’ve been waiting more than 40 years for the return of this unique cosmetic option, what’s another few months?
