Australian police are scrambling to find the bold thief who managed to steal a rare Nissan Skyline GT-R right out Nissan Headquarters.
Motor1 reports via Australia’s News.com.au that Nissan Australia confirmed the theft of the car from their headquarters. The stolen GT-R is a dark red 1991 R32 that had ties to GT-Rs that won the Bathurst 1000 — a Supercar race held in New South Wales — in 1991 and 1992. These wins helped cement the GT-R’s “Godzilla” nickname as the cars fielded in these races proved to be unbeatable at the time.
Police say they’re not exactly sure how the car was stolen but they’re currently investigating the incident. Whoever made off with the car might come away with a nice sized check if they decide to sell it. Motor1 says the car has a value of over $170,000. This GT-R is also significant because of how few R32s were sold on the continent when they were new; just 100 R32 GT-Rs were sent to Australia over the five year period from 1989-1994.
